Sky Dancers is a multidisciplinary dance piece that explores the impact of the Quebec Bridge disaster of 1907, which killed 33 ironworkers from Kahnawà:ke. The fallout was felt around the world and the aftermath still echoes across generations. Choreographer Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo brings visibility back to the impact the loss had on her Kanien’kehá:ka community, as well as to her community’s dance traditions: “Our dances were discouraged for hundreds of years and were considered unprofessional and even illegal in many parts of the country. We were made to feel invisible.”
