Feuille déchirée (meaning “torn leaf” or “torn paper”) is a multidisciplinary performing arts collective. Roxanne de Bruyn, Camille Havas, and Aouatef Kikrou explore interstitial spaces with a performance style that spans three disciplines and draws on three diverse cultural backgrounds.
The collective’s novel approach combines theatre, circus, and other performing arts to create a circular system that makes team members’ creative impulses resonate in new ways.
“The word ‘feuille’ evokes both the possibility of writing on a blank page and the tree where we find our roots, while ‘déchirée’ suggests a tearing out: the shared uprootedness we bear in mind to embrace our difference.”
The collective’s first performance, Avant que la dernière feuille tombe, is a work of documentary theatre and circus.
“The work builds resonance from letters addressed to our grandmothers, whose roots lie in Algeria, Hungary, and Belgium. We hark back to childhood, a time when our senses were at the very centre of our attention, conjuring up sensual experiences that are invigorating, delicious, personal, and universal. It’s another world, another time, but our present-day emotions and past memories come together to provide a framework for the story.”
