Finding the Words
Lisa Ndejuru on art and agency
As part of the project Going Public, Lisa Ndejuru speaks about the role of art in finding expression for her generational trauma linked to the Rwandan genocide.
“I think that without the arts I would not have been able to get to the words. Just as there are layers to the pain… to the gap, I think there are also levels or levers that are useful at different times… I don’t know if it’s the case for everyone, but for me it is. And I realize if I hadn’t done the one woman show, I wouldn’t have been able to work with community again.”
