Open Process Dramaturgy

Inviting others into the playwriting process

Santiago Guzmán

For the scripting of his new play, tentatively titled La Tlanchana, Santiago Guzmán wrote in an online shared document during a residency at Ship’s Company Theatre (Parrsboro, Nova Scotia). He opened the space to anyone who was interested to come and accompany him as he wrote his new play.

“I believe my work as an artist is rooted in community.”

“I believe my work as an artist is rooted in community: I care to foster, celebrate, and advance community. By opening my writing process, I strive to work with these core values of mine in mind. My hope is that anyone observing my process can take away something new or be provoked/inspired to try applying something into their own craft. This is a very small step I take as a creator to deconstruct/disrupt/decolonize my writing practice and share it with the community. My plays, my stories, my characters are for everyone to take in and learn from.”
